About THRIVE

THRIVE stands for Thriving through Reflection on Digital Engagement for Learning and Well-being. It is a four-year European research project exploring how young people can use digital technologies, including generative AI, in ways that support learning and emotional well-being.

The challenge

Digital tools are deeply embedded in young people’s lives, but the effects depend on what they do, why they do it and the conditions around them. Evidence is still fragmented, young people’s own perspectives are often missing, and schools lack practical guidance that works in diverse settings.

Our aim

THRIVE builds a robust cross-country evidence base and turns it into practical support for young people, schools and decision-makers. The project focuses on self-regulated learning: how learners plan, monitor and adapt their learning, and on emotional well-being in everyday educational settings.

What is different about THRIVE

Beyond screen time

It looks beyond screen time to the purpose, context and experience of digital use.

Multiple perspectives

It combines surveys, guided reflections and input from teachers and school leaders

Youth voice

It brings adolescent voices into the research and design process.

Critical AI approach

It tests AI-supported reflection in schools rather than assuming that technology is beneficial.

Evidence in action

It links scientific evidence to school-ready tools, training and policy guidance.

Equity at the core

It considers inclusion across gender, socio-economic circumstances, disability, migration background and access to technology.
